Granny Smith Apple

Large, very late season all-purpose green apple. Crisp, tart-sweet and flavorful when allowed to fully ripen. (Requires a long, hot summer.) Tree-ripe fruit has pale greenish-yellow shoulder where exposed to the sun. Good keeper and good for cooking. Prolonged bloom. Good pollinizer for other apples such as Red Delicious. Relatively small tree. 

For easier care and harvest, tree may be kept under 10 feet high by summer pruning. 

Moderate Winter chilling requirement: about 400 hours below 45 degrees. Self-fruitful.
